Remember our hike in Escorial last fall? It was fun! This time we're going to...
Puerto de Cotos - Laguna Grande de Peñalara
We will be heading to the mountains for this hike to the Laguna Grande from Puerto de Cotos.
This is an easy route that will be a short out-and-back with great views of the Sierra de Guadarrama. It will only be about 2-2.5 hours of walking total, with lots of opportunities for photos and socializing.
Kids are welcome (ages 7+), and dogs are also welcome although will need to come in private car as they can't come by bus.

How we'll get there:
1. We will meet at Moncloa bus station at 9:00 am to take the 9:15 am am bus to Puerto de Cotos. The bus ticket is 5.10€ and should be a free ride with the abono joven.
2. If you are coming with a dog or prefer to drive, you can meet us at the Puerto de Cotos parking lot at about 10:30
3. Estimated ~3-4 hours in Puerto de Cotos including breaks for a snack and photos as well as a drink afterwards if you'd like. We'll be walking at an easy pace. Full details on the route and transportation will be provided to participants.
4. Estimated time back in Madrid by 7pm or earlier, depending on which bus we can catch back. If we have time after the hike, we may stop for a drink on the terrace at the restaurant at Puerto de Cotos.
Technical details:
* The walk is on well maintained dirt paths, with some single track dirt paths and some areas that are paved with stones
* About 6.5 km (4mi) round trip, loop trail
* Gentle ascent/descent of approximately 200 m (700ft) on the way up and down.
What to bring:
a. 1.5 L water
b. Sandwich for lunch and any additional snacks or drinks you might like
c. Comfortable clothes and sneakers or hiking boots
d. Sunscreen and sunglasses
e. Walking stick if you like using them
f. Insurance is not included. It's possible to arrange individually - we are happy to direct you to a provider of "seguro de aventuras" for the day.
